Ask these questions to identify risk factors during pregnancy, labour or post-delivery:
How old is she?
How many children has she had?
Has she had any miscarriages?
Has she ever had an abortion?
Does she have any other health problems? Such as Diabetes, HIV/AIDS, Bladder or kidney infection, Malaria, High Blood Pressure, Pre-eclampsia or eclampsia.
Has she had any problems with past pregnancies or births?
- was she anaemic?
- did she have high blood pressure, swelling or convulsions?
- did she have diabetes?
- did she have a very long labour or long pushing stage?
- did she have fistula?
- did she have a very short labour (less than 3 hours?)
- did she have an early birth?
- did she have a small/big baby?
- did she have heavy bleeding before or after birth?
- did she have any problems with the placenta?
- did she have a fever or infection of the vagina or uterus?
- was she very sad after birth?
- did the baby get sick or die before, during, or after the birth?
- did her baby have birth defects?
- did she have Caesarean surgery?
