Feel the mother's womb each time she visits. With the mother lying on her back, begin by finding the top of the uterus with your fingers.

Then see how many months pregnant she is by the number of fingers. Each line is about the width of two fingers.

Normally the womb will be 2 fingers higher each month

At 3 months: the top if the uterus is usually just above the mother's pubic bone

At 5 months: the top of the uterus is usually right at the mother's bellybutton

At 8-9 months: the top of the uterus is almost up to the bottom of the mothers' ribs.

At every antenatal visit, write down the number of fingers you used to measure height of the uterus on the woman's antenatal record card.

"+" sign: in front of the number if the top of the uterus is above the bellybutton.

"-" sign: in front of the number if the top of the uterus is below the bellybutton.
