Vaccine Specific Information
2. SinoPharm (COVID-19 BIBP)
It is a Vero Cell inactivated vaccine against coronavirus, recommended for 18-59 years of age group.
- Characteristics:
- Fully liquid, inactivated, adjuvanted with aluminum hydroxide.
- Preservative-free suspension in vials and AD pre-filled syringes.
- Two available presentations:
- Pre-filled AD syringes
- Vials, for which the following is needed:
- Auto-disable (AD) syringes: 0.5 mL
- Needles for intramuscular injection 23G × 1” (0.60 × 25 mm).
- The vaccine is ready to use, during inspection of the vial or mono dose prefilled syringe make sure that the liquid is milky-white in color.
- When using vaccine vials, draw up the vaccine from the vial at the time of administration.
- Use it immediately as this vaccine contains no preservative.
- Given intramuscularly on deltoid muscle, the dose interval is 3-4 weeks from the first dose.
- Both doses are necessary for protection, the same product should be used for both doses.
- Vaccine handling:
- Store unopened vials in a refrigerator between +2 and +8°C until expiry date stated on the cover and opened vials (after first needle puncture) should be kept cooled at temperatures between +2 °C and +8°C during the immunization session
- Discard the vaccine after six hours of opening or at the end of the session whichever comes first.
- The vaccine has no VVM, monitor the temperature at least twice per day.
- Adverse events following immunization (AEFIs):
- Very common AEFIs: tenderness, itching, headache, fatigue and nausea.
- Common AEFIs: fever, swelling at injection, myalgia and arthralgia.
- Contraindication:
- It is contraindicated for a person with a known history of anaphylaxis to any component of the vaccine.
- A Person who developed anaphylaxis after the first dose should not receive a second dose of the Sinopharm vaccine.
