Management of COVID-19 Mild Illness

Clinical Signs and Symptoms

Management Approaches

  • Presents symptoms of upper respiratory tract infection such as fever, fatigue, cough, anorexia, malaise, muscle pain
  • Nonspecific symptoms like sore throat, dyspnea, nasal congestion, headache, diarrhea, loss of smell and taste
  • The elderly and immunosuppressed may present with atypical symptoms
  • Symptoms due to physiologic adaptations of pregnancy or adverse pregnancy events, may overlap with COVID-19 symptoms.
  • Enroll into home-based isolation and care for 14 days
  • Counseling about signs of clinical deterioration such as difficulty breathing, chest pain, blue lips, disorientation and confusion
  • Advise patients to keep hydrated
  • Provide symptomatic therapies with antipyretic/ analgesics

 Adults

  • Paracetamol 1gm PO every 6- 8hours maximum 4g/24hr
  • Tramadol 50–100 mg PO/IV every 4–6 hours daily maximum 400 mg/day alternatively or combined with paracetamol

Pediatrics

  • Paracetamol 15 mg /kg PO, Suppository every 6-8 hours
  • Avoid aspirin use in pediatrics cases to avoid Reye Syndrome
