As the disease affects mainly the
lungs, the most frequently encountered complication of SARS COV2 is ARDS.
To diagnose ARDS Berlin criteria
is used.

onset/worsening of respiratory symptom
- Bilateral
lung opacities not explained by effusion, lobar/lung collapse or nodules by
chest radiograph or ultrasound
- Respiratory
failure not fully explained by cardiac failure or fluid overload
- Hypoxemia of
different severity based on arterial blood gas determination (Pao2/FiO2):
Mild if the ratio is 200-300, moderate 100-200 and severe if <100.

- In ARDS If
non-invasive support is not successful, intubation and mechanical ventilation
are advised.
