Administration

Oxygen via nasal prongs and nasal catheter 

• For adults 
• With 1-5litters/min, inspired oxygen concentration rises to 25-40% (Each litter increases oxygen concentration by 4%)
• If saturation is not improving change to facemask with high flow rate
• For children 
• 0.5–1 L/min for neonates
• 1–2 L/min for infants
• 1–4 L/min for older children
• Flow rate more than the above  requires humidification
• avoids drying of nasal mucosa
