Breastfeeding and Care of the Newborn

• Feed according to standard infant feeding guidelines
• Apply necessary precautions for IPC
• Hand hygiene
• Medical mask
• Initiation of breastfeeding results in greater benefits
• Breastfeeding should be initiated within 1 hour of birth. 
• Exclusive breastfeeding should continue for 6 months
• Mothers who can’t be with the babies expressed BM and feed with cup, NGT
• As soon as possible baby should be nursed with the mother
