Standard Precautions are sets of guidelines designed to create physical, chemical and mechanical barriers between microorganisms and person to prevent or reduce the risk of transmission infection within healthcare settings- They are the first level precautions that set a minimum infection prevention measures.
- They are evidence-based practices that aim to prevent transmission of infection between health workers and patients or between patients.
- They have several components including hand hygiene, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), safe injection, instrument processing, environmental cleaning, processing linen, healthcare waste management, food and water safety, etc.
