Standard Precautions

Standard Precautions are sets of guidelines designed to create physical, chemical and mechanical barriers between microorganisms and person to prevent or reduce the risk of transmission infection within healthcare settings

They are the first level precautions that set a minimum infection prevention measures.
They are evidence-based practices that aim to prevent transmission of infection between health workers and patients or between patients.
They have several components including hand hygiene, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), safe injection, instrument processing, environmental cleaning, processing linen, healthcare waste management, food and water safety, etc.
