Medical Waste Management
- Waste generated during CoVID-19 case management should be considered as medical waste or infectious waste.
- In general medical waste management involves: -
- Minimization: meaning avoid reduce or reuse.
- Segregation: separate waste at its source into sharps waste, infectious waste and non-infectious waste.
- Safe handling of sharps: use puncture-proof safety boxes.
- Safe collection: use PPE and maintain a routine collection and transport schedule.
- Safe final disposal: dispose based on the type of waste (solid infectious waste, liquid infectious waste and disposable sharps).
