STEP 1: Assessment
LOOK for:
- Blood pressure
- Pulse rate
- Capillary refill
- External bleeding
Assess for signs of poor perfusion
- Pallor
- Cold or moist skin
- Sweating ( diaphoresis)
- Hypo-tension
- Tachycardia
- Absent pulse
Sites of bleeding
Life threatening conditions
- PERICARDIAL TAMPONADE : hypotension, distended jugular veins, distant heart sounds
- PELVIC FRACTURE
- FEMUR FRACTURE
- Massive external bleeding
STEP 2: Management
i. External bleeding- Apply direct pressure
- Consider tourniquet for uncontrollable bleeding
ii. Hypotension
iii. InfectionGive antibiotics if suspected infection
iv. Absent pulse
v. Pelvic fracture
vi. Extremity fractures
vii. Pericardial tamponade
- IV fluids
- Transfer to hospital with cardio-thoracic capability
