In this Study Session,  you learn that:

• The assessment and classification of HIV-infected children are as follows: confirmed HIV infection, possible HIV infection or HIV-exposed, unknown HIV status and HIV infection unlikely. 
• You can accurately assess and classify HIV-exposed, and infected children‘s based on their HIV test result and you can advise the mother about how to care their HIV-exposed children.
  
• Feeding is essential for growth, development and prevention of diseases. Increasing feeding during illness is necessary for the sick child because it helps him/her to recover faster. 
• There are different recommendations for child feeding according to their age: birth up to 6 months, 6 - 12 months, 12 months to 2 years, and two years and older.
• You should understand the different types of feeding for each child age category, so you correctly assess the feeding problems of the children and properly counsel the mother how to feed her sick children.
