In this Study Session, you have learned that:
- Postnatal care is the care given to the mother and baby from the time of delivery till six weeks of life.
- Maternal and the neonatal mortality rate is higher in the developing and underdeveloped countries of the world, especially in Africa.
- To bring change in the area of health service delivery, we have to have the health extension program as well as the army which can bring change. So Health Extension Workers are the soldiers of change who will bring change in the areas of improved health service delivery.
- PPH, Abortion, obstructed labour, infections like PID, are the main causes of maternal death. And neonatal tetanus, sepsis, birth asphyxia, prematurity and low birth weight are among the commonest causes of neonatal mortality.
- The time from delivery up to the first six days is the critical time which needs to be watched out for both the mother and the new born baby.
- Vaginal bleeding, none contracted the uterus, and unstable vital signs are always considered as danger signs that could cause death to the mother. And birth asphyxia, fast breathing, bleeding from the umbilicus are among the danger signs to be evaluated on the newborn baby. So as soon as these conditions occur, you should refer them without any delay.
- A planned action used to stimulate the community towards good health, and health-related behaviour is called community mobilisation.
- Community mobilisation without community participation is meaningless and should not be tried.
- A collection of all community profiles is necessary to offer postnatal care service and community mobilisation.
