In this Study Session, you have learned that:
- The mother will undergo many anatomical as well as physiological changes after delivery for instance change in the reproductive organs
- Lactation will start after 16 weeks of gestation, and the amount will significantly increase after the delivery of the baby, and it has four stages: - the growth and development of mammary glands called mammogenesis, initiation of milk secretion called lactogenesis, maintenance of milk secretion called galactopoiesis, and removal of milk called galactokinase.
- During the postnatal period, the mother should be provided with information on self-care and care that should be given to the newborn baby.
