When you have studied this session, you should be able to:

• The postnatal home visit is one of the preventive health care service delivery system for the mother and the newborn that helps to identify problems early and take the relevant actions.
• The postnatal home visit is an integrated service covering many health services, and it is a good opportunity to provide information and counselling for the mother and the whole family.
  
• The first postnatal home visit should be performed immediately within one hour after delivery; and if delayed, should not be longer than 24 hours; the second visit third days after delivery and the third visit, at seventh day and the fourth visit is at sixth week. These are the basically known time schedules, but whenever the need arises by the mother, it can be undertaken at any time, irrespective of those schedules. Besides this for preterm and low birth weight babies, additional visits at fifth and tenth days after delivery will be done.
  
• The preparation for a home visit will start from self-cleanliness, and getting the necessary equipment in your postnatal care kit.
  
• Following the steps, provide the necessary care of the mother and the baby.
