The epidemiological profiles of newborn health as it is presented in the global situationalanalysis of the health of newborns denote that most neonates die mainly from threecauses, neonatal infection, preterm delivery/ Low birth weight, and birth Asphyxia.
In Ethiopia, infection is considered to be the prime cause of newborn death. It isresponsible for about 47% of the neonatal deaths (sepsis 37%, Diarrhea 3%, and tetanus7%) next to infection are Asphyxia 23% and preterm/low birth weight 17%. Fifty and seventy five percent of the newborn mortality take place in the first 24 hours and first week after birth respectively.
In this session you will identify what routine screening should be done in order to identify these life threatening conditions in order to decrease the neonatal mortality rate.
